History

1968 - Meetings were held to consider the possibility of establishing a new Catholic secondary college for boys in order to meet the needs of the rapidly growing parishes of Bentleigh, Bentleigh East, Cheltenham, Highett, Moorabbin East and Ormond.

1969 – Plans for the proposed Catholic secondary college were given approval by the Archbishop of Melbourne.

1970 - Classes officially commenced in a temporary accommodation at the nearby St Peter’s Parish Catholic primary school, while the first stage of building was being completed. The De La Salle Brothers undertook the task of establishing and developing the new College. The Brothers gave an assurance for the final two years of Secondary schooling by entry either to De La Salle College, Malvern, or to St Bede’s College, Mentone. And so was established aan alliance between the three Colleges to ensure a full secondary education for boys in the Catholic and Lasallian traditions.

1971 – The first stage of the building programme was ready for occupation in February. The building development comprised an Administrative and Staff Centre, six classrooms, a Science laboratory, provision for Art and Craft as well as a playground and multiple toilet facilities.

1974 – The second stage of building was completed, allowing each year level be "housed" in improved accomidation. The Parents and Friends Association were the key developers of the sports oval, located rear the College. Br. Virgil Kennedy is succeded by Br. Kevin Moloney, as college principal.

1976 - Br. Kevin Moloney is succeded by Br. John Corkeron, as college principal.

1985 - Br. John Corkeron is succeded by Br. Joseph Gabel, as college principal.

late 1980s – Construction commenced on a new permanent library / Resource centre and extended staff facilities. The College Board and Staff directed attention to providing a "multi purpose" building. The vision of two years materialised in the construction of the Gymnasium – a general sports area with change facilities, a College assembly auditorium, a location for Drama production, students' displays and Parents' Association functions.

1987 - Br. Joseph Gabel is replaced by Br. Michael McCabe, as college principal.

1989 - Br. Michael McCabe is succeded by Br. Raymond Khan, as college principal.

1991 - Br. Raymond Khan is succeded by Br. James Taylor, as college principal.

1997 - Br. James Taylor is succeded by Br. Alphonso Zoanetti, as college principal.

2001 - Br. Alphonso Zoanetti is succeded by Br. Phillip Sheridan, as college principal.

In recent years - Upgrading the outdoor sports facilities has resulted in a first class Soccer pitch and provision for Cricket on a new synthetic wicket. A multi court hard surface has the facility for Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Netball.

2006 - A development opened, that saw the original classrooms of 1970, redeveloped into a modern Open Education area incorporating Graphic Design, Industrial Arts, Media Studies facility, and a College Chapel.

2010 - The renovation of all main classroom buildings, officially opens.

2012 - Due to the deaths of two PNG principals (Mainohana Catholic Secondary College and Hohola Youth Development Centre; both Lasallian-run schools), within weeks of eachother, Br. Phillip Sheridan had been appointed to principal of Mainohana Catholic Secondary College in 2011. He is to take up the new position in 2012. The De La Salle Brothers, faced with a difficult situation, are in no position to appoint a new Brother as the pricipal of the College. Deputy principal Stephen Pooley will become interim principal, until he is succeeded by a permanent principal.[1]
